NASABA ELECTIONS BEGIN – IMPORTANT DETAILS AND DATES

On April 1, 2012, pursuant to Article 5, Section 4 of the Amended and Restated Bylaws (“By-Laws”) of the North American South Asian Bar Association (“NASABA”), we will begin the elections process for the 2012-2013 NASABA Executive Committee Officers. I am serving as the Election Commissioner for this year.  The other members of the election committee this year are  Tejas Shah and Lesley Varghese.

Below are instructions and deadlines for the elections:

1. The current President-Elect, Emilie Ninan, will take office as the President on July 1, 2012.  The VP-Convention will be nominated by SABA Northern California, host of the 2013 Convention.  The 2012-2013 officer positions open for nomination are as follows:

         President-Elect;

         VP-Memberships;

         VP-Public Relations;

         VP-Affiliate Relationships;

         VP-Community Outreach

·         VP-Sponsorship & Development

         Secretary; and

         Treasurer

For a description of the responsibilities of each officer, please review Article V of the By-Laws (attached).

2. April 1, 2012 – We will begin receiving nominations for the above Executive Committee (“EC”) positions.

In order to be eligible to serve as an officer of NASABA, a nominee must be:
(i) a current or past member of the Board of NASABA;
(ii) a current or past president of a NASABA chapter;
(iii) a current or past chairperson of a standing of NASABA;
(iv) a current or past chairperson of a standing section of NASABA; (
v) a current or past co-chairperson of NASABA’s annual convention; or
(vi) a current or past chairperson of a standing subcommittee formed in connection with NASABA’s annual convention. (By-Laws, Article 5, Section 4(c)(1)). 
Eligible candiates may be nominated, or may nominate themselves, for an EC position.  Please e-mail the Election Commissioner (elections@nasaba.com mailto:elections@nasaba.com) with your nominations using the attached form.

 

3. April 10, 2012 – All nominations must be received by the Election Committee before 5:00 PM (PDT) on this date. (By-Laws, Article 5, Section 4(c)). We will then prepare ballots for circulation and provide candidates with guidelines regarding campaign materials and solicitations.

4. April 15, 2012 – Election ballots and candidate statements will be mailed to the current Board, which includes the current EC. (By-Laws, Article 5, Section 4(e)).
5. April 25, 2012 – Ballots must be returned to the Election Commissioner before 5:00 PM (PDT) on this date. (By-Laws, Article 5, Section 4(e)).
6. April 30, 2012 – This Election Committee will announce the 2012-2013 Officers. (By-Laws, Article 5, Section 4(f)).
Attached, please find a nomination form.  Kindly complete and return it at your earliest convenience, but no later than April 10, 2012.
